Moving can be tedious and require a humongous effort at times. You would need to get a couple days off for moving and there can be a whole lot of mess, but you do what you got to do. While moving, it is always recommended to hire a removal company with the services of furniture removal and storage as they are experienced and expert in the field. But if you don’t trust anybody but yourself for this work, we will start by telling you about a step-by-step guide on how to wrap and move a couch:

  • Cushions and Pillows

Cushions and pillows are the essence of your couch, and they are the first things you need to remove. If your couch has decorative pillows, remove them, and keep them with the other pillows. Pack all of them in a different box and label them. When the pillows and blankets are properly packed, move to the cushions, if there are any. If they are removable, take them out and pack them in a plastic sheet to put in a separate box. Make sure you follow this step so you would face less complications in the furniture removal and storage process.

  • Disassembling

There are the couches that can be disassembled and there are ones which cannot be. If your couch can be detached, you should get to that first. Modular sectionals can be separated and moved in pieces. Arms and legs of some sofas can be detached with ease too. Detaching some parts of the couch can make the process extremely easy. Although, if it isn’t designed to be detached, do not force it.

  • Wrapping

When you are done with the disassembling, it can be a lot easier to wrap the couch. Wrap it using the protective stretch wrap if you have the upholstered couch. Stretch wrap will be convenient due to its light weight and does not cause any damage to your couch when it is in transit. Although, in case your couch is made of leather material, we recommend you use the moving blankets to cover it. Furthermore, you can also apply packing tape to strengthen the tightness.

  • Carry the Couch to the Truck

You can move the couch to the truck through various methods, based on the size of the couch and the structure of your house. You can move the couch through:

  • Furniture Dolly

If your couch is quite heavy, you might require the services of a furniture dolly as it can move heavy appliances. Furniture dolly can be helpful in transportation of the large furniture for loading and unloading. You might need to tie the couch to the dolly with a rope to secure it and then slowly push the dolly towards the truck.

  • DIY

Unless you are a powerlifter, we really advise you to take help of someone and carry the couch yourselves to the moving truck. You might need the help of moving straps as they make it easier to lift heavy equipment. Place the moving straps around the couch and yourselves before lifting. You might need to consider the spaces and areas before carrying it, so you don’t have the issues midway.

After following all these tedious steps and putting in such a significant effort, you will finally be able to move the couch into the truck, but it is just the half job done. Even this process does not guarantee you complete safety. If you expect the process to be completely safe and don’t mind spending some bucks in exchange, we will always suggest you hire some professionals in case you need the services of furniture removal and storage.
